Over the weekend, the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Discord server was hacked, causing members to lose up to 200 Ethereum (approximately $360,000 USD) in addition to one BAYC and two Mutant Apes being stolen. The Discord account of BAY Project Manager Boris Vagner was also compromised, allowing the hacker to spread malicious content within the community. Users unknowingly clicked on the content and connected their wallets, believing it was authentic, and all of their assets were stolen, including their NFTs.
Security breaches are nothing new in the NFT community, and many projects face them on a daily basis. While they may have strong security measures in place, it is not uncommon for them to be exploited. Seth Green was recently a victim of one of these scams, losing a BAYC NFT as well.
